在我国，彩涂板的生产起步比较晚，研究始于国家“七五”计划。20世纪(80年代初、治金、化工、轻工等几个部门同时进入有机涂层钢板的生产工艺和产品应用技术方面的科研攻关和可行性研究。为后来引进国外生产线的工作莫定了基础。

我国第一批彩涂板生产线是在20世纪80年代初期分别从美国、英国、日本引年进。主要有:

(1)武钢彩涂机组:设计能力6.4万t，主要生产建筑用彩涂板。

(2)宝钢1、2号彩涂机组;设计能力约40万t，主要生产建筑用彩涂板。

(3)鞍钢新轧二条彩涂机组:设计能力30万t，主要生产建筑和家电用彩涂板。

(4)北京门窗厂机组:年产3万t。

(5)广州第三轧钢厂立式涂层机组:年产5万t。

由于当时这种生产工艺在国内属于新兴行业，产品的优点还没完全被国人认识，彩涂板在当时可以说是薄板应用中的一种奢侈品，所以投产后产量一直上不去，多半生产线都处于不饱和状态，最后鞍钢和广州三轧的生产线因不堪其工艺缺陷和产品成本的压力而停产或转让。

20世纪末，我国彩涂板的发展迎来了第二个高潮。国内已有上规模的彩涂线20多条，中、小型的生产线更是不计其数，年生产能力已达到150万t进入21世纪，我国如首钢、本钢、攀钢、邯钢、马钢、大连浦金、广东顺德浦项、江苏春兰、青岛海尔等超过30家大型企业已建成或在建10万t以上规模的彩涂生产线，机组产能较高，装备水平也较高。外，许多民营企业也投资彩涂板生产业，其多采用国产设备，产能较小，但上马快，投资低，产品主要面向建材、装饰行业;外资及中国台湾的一些台资也纷纷登陆兴建彩涂机组，这些机组大部分集中在我国沿海地区。从20002004年，生产量以平均39.0%的速度递增，到2005年全国彩涂板产能大于800万ta。还有一批彩涂机组正在建设之中，届时全国总产能将超过900万va或更高;治金行业外新建彩涂机组数量及产量已多于行业内;彩涂板生产主要集中在我国华东、华北地区，按已统计到的不完整数据，这两大区彩涂板生产能力占全国总生产能力的6.5%，若按省份计，则以广东省产能最高，约占全国总产能的10.1%。

据近几年的统计数字表明，我国每年仍需从国外进口彩涂板70-80万t，由此可见，彩色钢板的发展在我国仍有很大的市场。

The first batch of color coated sheet production lines in China were introduced from the United States, Britain and Japan in the early 1980s. Mainly:

(1) WISCO Colour Coating Unit: 64,000 tons of design capacity, mainly produces colour coated panels for buildings.

(2) Baosteel No. 1 and No. 2 color coating units; design capacity is about 400,000 tons, mainly producing color coating panels for buildings.

(3) Anshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. newly rolled two color coating units: design capacity 300,000 t, mainly producing building and household appliances color coating plate.

(4) Unit of Beijing Door and Window Factory: annual output is 30,000 tons.

(5) Vertical coating unit of Guangzhou No.3 Rolling Mill: annual output 50,000 t.

At that time, this production process belonged to a new industry in China, and the advantages of the products were not fully recognized by the Chinese people. Coloured coated sheet was a luxury in the application of thin sheet at that time, so the output of the production line was not up after putting into operation. Most of the production lines were unsaturated. At last, the production lines of Angang and Guangzhou No.3 Rolling Mill were not satisfied. It can be shut down or transferred under the pressure of process defects and product costs.

At the end of the 20th century, the development of color coated panels in China ushered in a second climax. There are more than 20 color painting lines on the domestic scale, including numerous medium and small production lines. The annual production capacity has reached 1.5 million tons and entered the 21st century. More than 30 large enterprises such as Shougang, Bengang, Pangang, Handan Steel, Maanshan Steel, Dalian Pujin, Shunde Puxiang, Jiangsu Chunlan and Qingdao Haier have been built or under construction. The color painting production line with a scale of more than 100,000 tons has higher production capacity and higher equipment level. In addition, many private enterprises also invest in the production of color coated panels. Most of them use domestic equipment and have small production capacity, but they start fast and have low investment. Their products are mainly oriented to building materials and decoration industries. Foreign capital and some Taiwanese capital from Taiwan and China have also landed to build color coated panels, most of which are concentrated in coastal areas of China. From 2000 to 2004, the production increased at an average rate of 39.0%. By 2005, the national production capacity of color coated sheets was more than 8 million ta. There are also a number of color painting units under construction, at which time the national total production capacity will exceed 9 million VA or higher; the number and output of new color painting units outside the gold industry is more than that in the industry; the production of color painting plates is mainly concentrated in eastern and Northern China, according to incomplete statistics, the production capacity of these two areas will account for the whole country. The total production capacity of Guangdong Province is 6.5%, which is the highest in terms of provinces, accounting for about 10.1% of the total production capacity of the whole country.

According to statistics in recent years, China still needs to import 700-800,000 tons of color coated steel sheets from abroad every year, which shows that the development of color steel sheets still has a large market in China.
