由于聚酯中含有活性基团-OH/-COOH，因此很容易与其他大分子和物质发生反应。为了提高聚乙烯的耐光性和粉化性能，采用保色性和耐热性优良的有机硅树脂进行变性反应，使聚乙烯的变性率在5%-50%之间。SMP具有更好的钢板耐久性，防腐寿命可达10-12年。当然，它的价格比PE高，e树脂对材料的附着力和加工性能都不理想。因此，SMP彩涂钢板不适用于需要多次成型加工的场合，多用于建筑屋顶和外墙。
